The shortage in liquid crystal display panel stocks will be over in six to nine months, freeing monitor makers from growth constraints, said computer monitor maker Proview International Holdings.

The full operation of suppliers' fifth-generation LCD panel production lines will relieve manufacturers from the shortage and help drive down material costs, said Proview executive director Luffer Wong.

Manufacturers have been suffering from the component shortage and a margin squeeze as LCD panel suppliers are adjusting their production for new models.

'We could only secure about 200,000 LCD panels a month from suppliers, although the monthly orders for our LCD monitors reached about 300,000 units,' said Mr Wong.

The remarks came as the company recorded a net profit of HK$109.57 million in the year to June 30, against a $77.5 million loss in the previous year.

Turnover rose 49.9 per cent to $6.94 billion.
