The play The Seventh Drawer opens tonight, promising the audience a piece of 'surrealistic music theatre'.
Director Ho Ying-fung incorporates mime into his work, which can be quite a challenging experience for the actors involved. Says actor Josie Ho Chiu-yee: 'It is so physically exhausting. In my part, I have to be constantly hunched over - whether I am standing, walking, my back is so sore. We rehearse five hours a day, six days a week, and 10 hours on Sunday. I have to see both a Chinese acupuncturist and a physiotherapist before I go into rehearsal.'
The experience has taught Josie and co-star Sam Lee Chan-sam (pictured) a lot about physical acting.
Says Josie: 'Sam passed out the first time he completed his monologue - it's three whole pages of Chinese, it's crazy, it lasts 10 minutes! He started sweating, and in the end he passed out, completely exhausted.'
