Damages sought over foam-vapour explosion

A waste-materials inspector was paralysed in his left arm by an explosion of flammable vapour emitted by a container of polystyrene beads, the Court of First Instance heard yesterday.

Yip King-leung is seeking $3.8 million in damages from his former employer, China Inspection Company, over the blast, which occurred on December 16, 1998.

Girl, 7, calls police after mother slashes father

A seven-year-old girl called police after her mother chopped her father in their  home yesterday. Officers arrived at the family's unit in Sau Mau Ping Estate about 8.30am and found that the woman, 31, had attacked   her husband, 41, during a dispute over her gambling debts.  She was arrested for wounding and  her husband was treated for arm injuries. Police said that the couple's three children, aged three, five and seven,  were unhurt.

Study stress cited for woman's suicide leap

A 23-year-old woman plunged to her death from her public housing flat in Tsz Wan Shan after leaving a note saying she was under stress over her studies.  She was found  unconscious on the first-floor canopy of Lok Yan House, Tsz Lok Estate, just before 11am. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was declared dead.

Passenger dies in crash

A woman passenger was killed and the driver injured after their car  hit a lamp post in Tai Po. Police said a 21-year-old man was driving the car along the Tai Po-bound Bride's Pool Road when it crashed near Chung Mei shortly before midnight.

There were no winners of last night's Mark Six draw, so $5 million will jackpot to Thursday's draw. The numbers were 6, 9, 18, 22, 31 and 41. The extra was 24. The second prize paid $119,110 and the third prize paid $13,140.
