Remember a few years ago, when people talked about wearable computers that could be strapped around the waist and connected to a cyborg-like eyepiece that looked like it came from the movie RoboCop?
Well, technology is not quite that cool yet, but Philips is taking steps in the right direction with its latest line of products.
The Dutch electronics giant has introduced three 'wearable' products: two digital cameras that are small enough to be attached to a keyring, and an Mp3 player that is almost invisible when it is worn.
Technology Post got its hands on the 128MB Mp3 player, and it was as close to a technophile's dream as we have ever seen. A 64MB capacity unit is also available. It comes in two colours, max black and chill white.
The camera handles pictures to a resolution of 1.3 megapixels, but only a mock-up was supplied. The MP3 player is the size of a pack of chewing gum. One end of the lightweight magnesium body detaches to reveal a USB adapter for transferring songs, while the other end is attached to a one-button remote control on the integral neckband.
The ear buds are connected to this which means there are no messy wires that can get tangled.
To turn on the unit, press and hold the single button on the remote. To pause or play, press the same button briefly - it's that simple.
