Suzhou delegation seeks huge HK investment
A Suzhou municipal government delegation to Hong Kong plans to attract investment of 81.8 billion yuan (HK$76 billion) from companies in the city. Suzhou Mayor Yang Weize said yesterday that the city would open its service sector to Hong Kong investors under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (Cepa), particularly in logistics, tourism, retail and business services.
Search for alternative water sources backed
The Advisory Council on the Environment expressed support for exploring alternative sources of water to avoid over-reliance on Guangdong. Council chairman Lam Kin-che said the government was studying the possibility of water desalination and the reuse of treated effluent.
Man jailed for hiring mainland babysitter
A Hong Kong man was sentenced to six months' jail for illegally employing a mainland woman as a babysitter, the Immigration Department said. Kowloon City Court convicted Tang Kam-moon, 37, of employing Feng Canhau for $1,800 a month to take care of his two children. Ms Feng held a two-way permit.
