With many analysts worried about the outlook for the US dollar, it pays to think carefully before choosing a guaranteed fund. The Opal Notes Series 2 and Series 2 Premium, available in either US dollars or euros, are targeting returns of 16 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.
The products are offered by British-based Tilney Investment Management and come with an initial capital guarantee backed by Societe General. The high rates of return may seem astounding in today's market, but the product carries a longer term than most, with investors free to cash in on December 12th, 2012 - a 10-year maturity. There is no initial sales charge, but investment minimum is set at US$25,000.
Paul de Quant, managing director of Tilney Asset Management, said: 'Opal Notes Series 2 gives investors the opportunity to combine the hedge fund expertise of Tremont with the innovative structuring skills and guarantee provided by Societe Generale.'
The fund invests in a group of hedge funds which employ strategies that benefit in good and bad markets.
