A comfortable city spa with a hassle-free atmosphere, the Grande Spa caters to the busy professional
or tourist in need of a quick spa fix that take less than an hour, as well as those wanting to indulge for
longer. The Ultimate is a sure stress beater. A top-to-toe package that bathes and pummels the body,
it washed away all the stress I carried with me to Bangkok. The package (5,500 baht for two hours, 55
minutes) begins with a Hydro bath filled with the essential oils of frankincense, lemongrass,
sandalwood and sweet orange to condition the body.
Next, a back pound massage using a Thai herbal poultice, one of 11 treatments based around the use
of the steamed, hot herbal pound, which when tapped on muscle mass increases circulation and
oxygen and helps in the quick healing of torn tissue.
Originally created to help soldiers returning from war to recover more quickly from muscle trauma, the
poultice has proved popular with spa clients. If you have tried it once you will understand why. The
synergy of water, heat and the gentle tapping of muscles invokes an especially deep sense of
relaxation. The treatment continues with the brushing of dead skin cells, before the body is treated to
an all-over massage using an essential oil of choice.
Finally, a facial using one of the spa's best-known products - a floral water and lemongrass skin toner
created by the spa's manager. This, combined with a head massage, leaves the body entirely relaxed.
Another treatment worth trying, especially if you are looking for a treat to celebrate a special occasion,
is the Dallah Twin for Two (8,900 baht, two hours 50 minutes). Couples can relax in the privacy of the
Dallah suite, complete with a spa bath, sauna and private shower. Following a sauna, the body is
gently scrubbed before an aromatic bath with either a relaxing or energising oil. This is followed by an
aromatherapy massage, again with an essential oil of choice. 'Grande' pampering is finished with a
facial using the spa's own Integrity line of products.
All the spa Thai treatments (which use natural ingredients including lemongrass, tea tree and other
herbs native to Thailand) combine scrubs, the massage pound and body wraps. The facials are
especially good for Asian skins.
Juices and snacks are available next to the Sala swimming pool, and a fitness club is located
downstairs from the spa area.
