Two political activists went on trial yesterday for allegedly desecrating the national flag outside the Eastern Court building in Sai Wan Ho. Ng Kwok-hung, 46, and Lau San-ching, 50, are accused of defacing the flag by publicly and willfully stepping on it on March 4. Both pleaded not guilty. The alleged incident occurred on the day Ng attended a separate trial for burning the flag during a protest on National Day last year. Ng, an April 5th Action Group member, was found guilty of desecrating the flag and jailed for three months, suspended for two years. The hearing continues today before Eastern Court magistrate Johnny Chan Jong-herng.
