ROLL up for Barnum , the hit circus musical coming to the territory in time for Christmas! It brings all the glamour and excitement of the circus to the Cultural Centre on November 30, for 16 shows.
Barnum is the first full West End London musical to be staged here. It has run for over 2,000 performances in New York and London, and played to more than 10 million people.
The musical follows the exciting life of showbiz impresario P.T. Barnum, which culminated in the establishment of the world famous Barnum and Bailey circus. Paul Nicholas, one of Britain's most popular musical star performers, takes the lead role of Barnum. He is supported by a cast specially trained in circus artistry.
The story is set among the trappings of the big top, with clowns, jugglers and acrobats performing dazzling production numbers and stunning feats on the high wire and trapeze.
''Barnum has colour, lights, fireworks, music and circus tricks by the score,'' Mr James Cundall, managing director of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, said at a press conference on Monday.
Lunchbox, which is producing Barnum, is also planning a traditional English fun fair on the piazza outside the Cultural Centre. There will be original-restored Victorian carousel horses built in 1908, a helter-skelter, children's rides, game stalls and street theatre.
