Seven-time world trial champion Dougie Lampkin will be out to prove he's one step ahead of his rivals again as Hong Kong spectators get ready for a new sport to hit town with the second leg of the FIM Indoor Trial World Championship tonight.
The 27-year-old legendary Englishman edged out world champion Adam Raga in the first leg of the World Championship last week in Monza and is confident he can clinch the Grand Prix of Hong Kong title in a sport that makes its debut at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
Lampkin is bent on revenge after losing the last two indoor world titles to a Spaniard and the strapping Englishman would want nothing more than victory tonight to cement his number one spot at the top of the overall standings.
In Monza, Lampkin edged out Raga by just one point to take the first of 11 circuit events and the Silsden-born rider expects another tough ride against the cream of the world's most talented riders.
'The sport is something new in Hong Kong. It was fantastic in Monza last weekend and I am happy to go out again and compete. The competition is going to be very strong again. The top six riders are here and it's going to be very close. But I am looking forward to it and it should be good,' said Lampkin, who rides for Montesa-HRC.
Lampkin will be the first rider from the second group of three riders to display their mettle tonight. There are six riders competing in the championship and defending champion Raga will be out last, giving the 21-year-old Spaniard somewhat of an advantage.
Lampkin explained: 'My draw is not good really because everybody wants to be the last out. Every chance you get to see [the other riders] is a big advantage because you can work out the obstacles better. I am first in my group and Adam [Raga] is last in the group. It's not fantastic, but hey, everybody has to ride well and we are out to win.'
