Beginning on December 19 at the Tamar Site in Admiralty, the World Carnival offers not only exciting rides and games. The organiser is allocating booths for fund-raising - and that includes Operation Santa Claus, the annual charity event co-organised by Radio Television Hong Kong and the South China Morning Post. Beneficiaries of the project have been invited to make two free trips to the carnival.

Hans Lodders, managing director of World Carnival Limited, says that this year's Operation Santa Claus captured his attention because instead of the proceeds going to just one charity, 12 selected organisations will receive financial support. 'We think this is a great idea. This new scope involves a broader part of the community,' says Mr Lodders.

The first bash in aid of Operation Santa Claus will be a special trip for the 12 charity beneficiaries prior to the carnival's official opening.

On December 19, more than 1,000 children nominated by the 12 organisations will get a sneak preview of the exciting rides and games in the company of special guest celebrities.

Booths which offer activities such as a chance to get the autograph of a pop star and game stalls will be among the fund-raisers . All the proceeds generated between December 19 and December 31 will go to Operation Santa Claus.

This year's World Carnival, which will cost $90 million to build, promises to offer the public a different and exciting experience. The change of location from Kai Tak to the Tamar site means special decorations and a new layout for the rides and games.
