Hong Kong: Dell Computer has begun offering the Red Flag Linux operating system as an option with its servers in China. The announcement came as Dell announced it had certified Red Flag to run on its Dell PowerEdge servers last month. 'Our customers in China have asked us to add Red Flag to our offerings and we are pleased to do so,' said Foo Piau Phang, president of Dell China. Red Flag Linux was based on the Red Hat distribution, which is still offered as the Linux standard in other Dell territories, including Hong Kong.

MSN expands services with NEW ASIAN PORTALS

Hong Kong: Microsoft's online service MSN has launched new services in Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. The company said it introduced the local services as users in the three countries were already heavy users of MSN's international Hotmail and MSN Messenger services. The new sites - at www.msn.com.id, www.msn.com.ph and www.msn.com.th - were built for local environments, where most consumers still depend on dial-up internet access. As e-commerce in the three countries is still relatively small, the sites focus on MSN Search, e-mail and instant messaging.
