Drug trafficker shot dead

A SUSPECTED drug trafficker was shot dead by police in Tai Po in the New Territories yesterday after he attacked three officers with a chopper during an undercover narcotics operation.

Members of a special duty squad confronted Yung Shui-man, 39, during an anti-drug raid in Pan Chung Sun Chuen village but Yung resisted arrest.

He ran to a relative's home, returning with a chopper and attacked the officers.

He chased one of the policemen along a narrow street in the village and wounded the officer in the head and leg.

After again refusing to give himself up, Yung was shot three times in the chest by another officer.

Three policemen suffered injuries and were taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital. Two were later discharged. Several villagers needed treatment for shock.
