Hong Kong residents holding Hong Kong SAR or British National (Overseas) passports, Hong Kong Certificates of Identity or Documents of Identity, all are required to obtain a visa to visit (or transit) the United States. For applicants who are interviewed, approved visas will be issued by 4pm the same working day, whenever possible. Hong Kong residents enjoy a higher approval rate than the mainland. Visa applicants are required to: Pay a non-refundable application fee of $800 per application in advance to any Dah Sing Bank branch Complete an application form (DS-156), available from the US Consulate General's website. Attach a recent photo that meets the consulate's requirements. (Requirements are strict. A photo must have been taken within the past six months, be about 5cm square with the head centred in the frame, exposing a full face against a white or off-white background.) Supply supporting documents such as personal financial documents and a leave letter from an employer. Applicants for a business visa require a letter of sponsorship from their firm; correspondence concerning the trip; a business profits tax statement; recent current account statements of their firm and other information on request. Make an appointment with the consulate after which the consular officer will decide whether the applicant truly intends to return to Hong Kong after a temporary stay in the US.
