Moscow Circus strongman Fakhridin Akhnazarov may be in Hong Kong for the first time, but he feels right at home. Originally from Uzbekistan, 135kg Fakhridin explains that HK is special to him because, with his almond eyes and ivory skin, he is continually mistaken for a Chinese. 'In Russia, a woman walked up to me and claimed that I was the biggest Chinese person she had ever seen,' he says. 'And when I was in Hollywood, movie producers wanted me to star in action/kung fu movies with Jean-Claude Van Damme because they said that I could pass for a Chinese.' However, he explains that his work with the circus left him with no time to pursue a movie career. CitySeen had the privilege of finding out that, strongman or not, Fakhridin is really just a normal guy. Married to a gorgeous Russian woman and father to a ninemonth-old daughter, Fakhridin tells us that he settled on a career in the circus at the age of 14, after he realised that his passion for judo was not going to help him make ends meet. Now, at the age of 31, he is studying sports law so he can become a lawyer. You can get a closer look at Fakhridin when the Moscow Circus begins at the Southorn Playground in Wan Chai tomorrow. And no, picking me up is NOT proof of Fakhridin's credentials!
