Police investigating the death of celebrity interior designer Simon Jackson believe he jumped from the roof of a four-storey Mid-Levels apartment block in an apparent suicide. Jackson, 43, landed on the first-floor platform of a block adjacent to the Macdonnell Road building he lived in, according to a police investigator. 'We believe it is a suicide case. If the victim had fallen accidentally, he should have landed near the building from where he fell. We are still investigating why he committed suicide,' the investigator said. Police have ruled out foul play. Police said they would continue to investigate the case and submit a report to the Coroner's Court. An autopsy is likely to be carried out today to find out the cause of death and whether Jackson had taken sleeping pills or drugs before the fall. According to a longtime friend, Jackson had never fully recovered from the trauma of a robbery in which he was beaten and robbed of jewellery worth $800,000 when three men burgled his flat in July 1999. He felt deeply betrayed when it emerged his two Filipino houseboys were involved. Relatives are expected to fly in from Australia today to make funeral arrangements. The Australian designer was found on Thursday morning and declared dead at hospital. No suicide note has been found.
