Disgraced lawmaker Chim Pui-chung plans to win back his Legco seat, comparing his political comeback from prison to Nelson Mandela's struggle.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Mr Chim said he planned to contest the Legco election next September for his old financial services sector seat.
'I consider I have already had a personal victory as I am willing to contest the election instead of staying at home. By doing so, I expect I may face humiliation and some may tease me over my past prison life. But I think at least I should go and try if my former supporters will still give their votes to me,' he said.
Mr Chim represented stockbrokers, futures traders and gold dealers in the Legislative Council from 1991 until he was jailed in 1998.
He was disqualified from Legco after he was jailed for three years for plotting to forge share transfer documents.
His sentence was later cut to 12 months after a successful appeal.
