Use of banned sweetener by McDonald's confirmed
Fast-food chain McDonald's is facing prosecution after confirmation of the use of a banned sweetener in its product yesterday.
A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department confirmed the restaurant chain had used stevioside, which has been linked to cancer, in its honey barbecue seasoning. She said the department was seeking advice on how to prosecute. In a statement, McDonald's said it did not intentionally break the rules, and it fully supported the department's role. However, it said there had been no conclusive findings about the health impact of stevioside.
Ex-EOC chair's daughter files second libel suit
The daughter of former Equal Opportunities Commission chairman Michael Wong Kin-chow has filed a second libel lawsuit against Next magazine in as many months. Barrister Rosaline Wong Wing-yue filed a High Court writ for Theresa Po Wing-kam against Next Magazine Publishing and its chief editor Cho Siu-chun and Next Media Interactive.
