MAERSK Line has deployed a 3,400 TEU(20 ft equivalent unit) newbuilding on its Japan/Far East-Europe route, replacing a smaller vessel.
The new German-flagged vessel, Maersk Hong Kong constructed by Samsung of South Korea, called in the territory late last month.
The 43,600 deadweight tonne vessel with 150 reefer plugs is expected to strengthen Maersk's operations between the Far East and Europe.
In May, Maersk added a fourth string to the three strings it was operating after buying out EAC.
Recently, Maersk in partnership with P&OCL entered into a long-term contract with rail-freight distribution of British Rail to provide daily dedicated block trains on a round-trip to and from Southampton, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Glasgow.
