The racing stewards hope to reconvene early this week yesterday's adjourned inquiry into the running and handling of Bowin in the eighth event.

After taking evidence from jockey Simon Yim Hin-keung (right) and trainer Francis Lui Kin-wai during and then after the races, chief steward Jamie Stier said the panel had adjourned the hearing for reasons of time and so as to evaluate the evidence which had already been submitted.

'We hope to open it up again before Christmas on Thursday, but no date has yet been fixed. We don't publish interim stewards' reports, or make comments on ongoing inquiries like this one. However, for the moment, it's enough to say that we were concerned about the way in which the horse was ridden in the early and middle stages of the race,' Stier said.

Third choice in the betting behind My Choice (second) and Tony Cruz's heavily backed debutant, Super Prince, Bowin eventually finished seventh about five lengths behind the winner, Goodwood.

Bowin had been at the centre of an inquiry at his previous run, too, when he had been pushed wide on the track by Triccolo (Weichong Marwing) and Marwing had been warned about his riding on that occasion.

Local freelance rider, Alex Yu Kin-shing (right) got the pickup ride from hell yesterday when he was named as the replacement jockey on Excel Trader in race five.

Published rider Henry C.K. Tsang had pulled up sore in his right ankle after trackwork yesterday morning, apparently aggravating an old injury, and he elected to relinquish his three mounts on the card.
