SCOTLAND are to be the third Five Nations country to accept an invitation to next year's Hong Kong Sevens.

Ireland and France have already confirmed their participation in the March 26-27 tournament.

The Scots are set to follow suit and send a national side for only the third time.

Scotland made their debut in 1991 and were represented again in this year's tournament, when they were beaten in the quarter-finals by eventual champions Western Samoa.

Scotland, the country which started sevens a century ago, have not fared well at international events in recent years.

They have never gone past the quarter-finals in Hong Kong and at the inaugural World Cup Sevens in Edinburgh this year, the Scots were left to fight for minor positions.
