Students from a Kowloon Tong school turned the tables on Santa Claus when he visited by giving him a gift for the needy. Instead of receiving Christmas presents, the Yew Chung Primary School students handed a $5,160 cheque to Santa, hoping that he could bring their glad tidings to the less fortunate. Cakes, snacks and Operation Santa Claus badges were sold for five consecutive weeks to raise the money. The schoolchildren took turns to bake cakes and prepare snacks for other classes to buy on Fridays. Members of the school community looked forward to when they could buy their morning snack to share with their friends. The support from the students' parents also meant that there was always enough food to meet demand. So, when Santa - provided free by Swire Pacific - visited the school last Thursday, the children were not only proud of their achievement, but they had learnt that it was more rewarding to give than to receive. Operation Santa Claus would like to thank Gabrielle Churchouse Photography for donating an individual/family portrait session which received an $8,000 bid; and Itokin, Pyxis, Toonsland and Straight Success for donating the Elle products at the Gaia carnival-style gala dinner on December 17.
