TAIWAN'S 15-year-old Weng Tzu-ting, given less than two hours to acclimatise to Hong Kong, began her quest for a main draw berth in the US$100,000 Digital Women's Open in fine style at Victoria Park yesterday.

Weng arrived yesterday afternoon only hours after being beaten in the final of a Taipei Satellite tournament by Korea's Jeon Mi-ra.

Still upset over her loss, Weng arrived at Victoria Park 15 minutes before her qualifying match against Spain's Gemma Magin, which she won 6-1, 6-4.

But the teenager, who is tipped to follow the path of her more famous compatriot and second seed here Wang Shi-ting, has still a long way to go to secure one of the four main draw places.

The unranked Weng today faces Australia's 235th-ranked Nicolle Pratt in the second round of qualifying.

Should she beat Pratt, Weng then plays American Donna Faber for a place in the main draw.
