Thirty-two people were killed and six injured in northern Guangdong's Lianzhou city when an unregistered farm truck they were on overturned after it failed to take a bend on a highway. The accident happened about 9.30am Sunday, Xinhua reported yesterday. Members of the State Council's work safety group were directing investigation efforts. The fatalities were the latest in a spate of road accidents on Guangdong highways. On two consecutive days last month, eight people, including three Hong Kong residents, were killed in two bus crashes on the Shenzhen-Shantou expressway. Authorities said there were 8,730 road accidents in Shenzhen in the first eight months of the year, a 20 per cent increase. China accounts for 15 per cent of road fatalities worldwide, although it has only 2 per cent of the world's cars.
