Christmas came early this year for a group of students at a small primary school in Yuen Long.

Children at Hong Kong Poinsettia Primary School, with 68 students and 10 staff set up by the Nepalese community, were presented with 30 pairs of inline roller skates and protective clothing by the YMCA of Hong Kong King's Park Centenary Centre (KPCC) and Benpat International Limited.

'They are skates we couldn't sell from the shop at our centre,' explained KPCC manager Doug Cole. 'They have never been used and so are in perfect condition.'

John Patkin of Benpat - a company that makes skating equipment - donated 30 sets of elbow and knee pads.

'When Doug said what they were doing, we were more than happy to donate the safety equipment they needed,' he said.

Staff from the KPCC presented the skates and gear last Wednesday morning and stayed behind to give the children some free extreme sports coaching.
