The traditional way to celebrate Boxing Day is to give money and gifts to charities and people in need. But this year's Operation Santa Claus did not have to wait until today to receive enormous support. Not only has this year's appeal raised a record amount, but the support from the public has been unprecedented. UBS and Credit Suisse First Boston each pledged to raise $100,000 for the appeal this year, but the companies have exceeded this amount by $80,000 and $90,000 respectively, thanks to the generosity of their staff. Today is more than just a day to open up your holiday gift boxes. You can help keep the charitable tradition alive by giving money to the appeal or to the needy in general.
