ON the night of Sunday, August 29, a group of our Chinese friends went to the China Jump Bar and Restaurant in Causeway Bay Plaza for a drink.
One of our friends who was decently dressed was not permitted to enter by the gweilo doorman, who pointed to the sign ''No jogging shoes allowed''.
Being rule-abiding, my friend left the bar.
The rest of us stayed behind to have some drinks and five minutes later, we saw a gweilo customer wearing shorts and jogging shoes being admitted by the very same doorman who had barred our friend. We were furious and asked the doorman why he had allowed this person in and not our friend.
The doorman replied that ''only members'' were exempt from this rule.
Is there a house rule at the China Jump which says that members are allowed in with shorts and jogging shoes? If not, then members should know the dress code and they should abide by it. I know that I will not be patronising the China Jump again.
