Is orthopaedic all about bones? What kind of problems do doctors encounter in orthopaedic surgery? 'The Past And Present of Orthopaedic' promises to reveal all. The exhibition, currently being held at the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Science, has been extended to the end of January, 2004 to accommodate more visitors.

Orthopaedic is the oldest branch of medicine, rooted in the very beginning of human civilisation. People in pre-historical times had long struggled with a hostile environment for survival. They fought with wild animals as well as other human beings.

The results were fractures, dislocations and subsequent deformities. The exhibition provides insight into the ancient techniques of healing.

The museum opens from 1pm to 5pm on public holidays, but is closed on New Year's Day. For more information, call 2549 5123.
