$1.2m in gold ornaments snatched in daring raid

Three men stole more than $1.2 million in gold ornaments during a brazen daylight robbery on Cheung Sha Wan Road yesterday. Two men were taking the gold to a jewellery shop in two briefcases when the attackers struck at 10.30am. 'The two men were punched in the face and head by the attackers, who then stole the two briefcases,' a police spokeswoman said. 'The three suspects are then believed to have flagged down a taxi to make their getaway.' Officers from the Shamshuipo district crime squad are investigating.

fifth bogus bank website found in four weeks

Another bogus bank website has been discovered, the fifth in one month. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority warned that a fraudulent site with the domain name www.swisscreditbank.com was not authorised under the Banking Ordinance. The authority said anyone who had had dealings with the bogus site should contact the police on 2860 5012. Bogus websites for DBS bank, HSBC, the Bank of China and Schroeder Investment Management have been uncovered last month.

prison guards prevent inmate killing himself

Prison guards saved the life of a 62-year-old inmate who tried to kill himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre. The prisoner - who was on remand for murder - tried to hang himself with a bed sheet in his cell about 1am. Patrolling correctional officers saw the attempted suicide and rushed to save him. He was admitted to Caritas Medical Centre in critical condition.
