Security guards are wide awake

I REFER to C.F.L. Cores' letter on security guards (South China Morning Post, August 17).

Writing as a security guard, I believe Mr Cores is being unfair to a group of trained professionals. Security guards follow a code of practice and we take our training and our responsibilities very seriously. Security guards provide a valuable deterrent to robbery in these violent times.

Mr Cores puts forward no evidence to suggest that there have been any accidents or that any robbers have taken the weapons of security guards to rob shops.
