G-Unit's debut album Beg for Mercy is a collection of street raps about guns, crimes, gangs and girls.
The collective comprises 50 Cent and life-long friends Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, but 50 Cent treats the album like it was his own. He dominates the album by appearing in most of the choruses.
My Buddy is the best song on the album and features the sound of a gun repeatedly being loaded and fired. Other standout tracks include Stunt 101, the first single to be released.
Sadly, the lyrics are lacking - not a good thing for a rap album. The songs are incoherent and do not have any sort of theme. You honestly wouldn't notice if the verses to the different tracks were switched round.
By the time you are halfway through the tracks, you will have probably had enough. The album is a mess.
Throughout the album, the name G-Unit is mentioned repeatedly. The group should know that a good name comes from good songs, not self advertising. If they want to be a success, they will have to review their style and seek out a new musical direction.
