Dutchman Martin Verkerk will be itching for revenge when he takes on his French Open conqueror, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in his first-round match on Friday.

The towering 1.95-metre tall Verkerk last played Ferrero at Roland Garros where the Spaniard won in straight sets.

Now, the 25-year-old Dutchman will have a chance to turn the tables on Ferrero as he attempts to make an explosive start on his Hong Kong debut.

'It's going to be revenge,' said the world number 19 from the Netherlands. 'I think it is real nice to play those [kind of] players. For sure you'll get two good matches against those players [in this tournament].'

Verkerk said he would be ready for the challenge against Ferrero, having done four straight weeks of gym work to build his fitness and strength.

'I did four weeks of physical work in the gym. I think I am fit and strong to play in the Grand Slams. If I get some good matches here, that would be good. I want to see how my level is against these players. You want to win and get ready to prepare for the Grand Slams. The most important thing is to compete again and know how to play in a match because my last match was at the end of October.
