On behalf of the Hospital Authority, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for the generosity of the South China Morning Post and your readers in coming up with another donation of $280,000 in support of our effort in fighting severe acute respiratory syndrome, or Sars.
It is a timely donation and we will use the money to purchase face shields for our frontline colleagues during the high-alert season for Sars.
Together with this donation, the authority has received a total of $21,420,000 from Project Shield.
This substantial contribution from the community is indeed encouraging support for frontline medical professionals and it also shows the benevolence and the spirit of unity of Hong Kong people. These invaluable virtues of the community will always be in our hearts and we will do our very best to protect the health of Hong Kong.
