Households accepting the payout have relinquished their right to sue for more
More than 30 million yuan has been offered in compensation by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to the 190 households that lost family members in the Chongqing gas field disaster.
Local officials said almost all the households had already accepted the payment, giving up their right to sue the company for a larger amount.
Under the company's compensation policy issued by the Kai county government, families of the dead will receive between 72,380 yuan and 144,760 yuan for each victim, depending on their age.
The money has been distributed by the local authorities and only 10 families have yet to receive payment.
'We fully expect the remaining 10 families to receive payment [on Friday],' said Hu Tianhui, an official at the county centre that is handling the compensation.
Mr Hu said the families were satisfied with the amount offered and, although it had not been made clear to them that by accepting the money they would lose their right to sue for further compensation, the authorities did not expect any problems.
