Funeral ceremonies bring diva Anita Mui close again to her favourite leading man
Just as they had been close friends in life - both on and off the movie screen - Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong and heartthrob Leslie Cheung Kowk-wing seemed close in death.
Obvious attempts had been made to make the funeral arrangements for Mui project a similar atmosphere to the ceremonies marking the death of her fellow singer and movie co-star last April.
Whereas the portrait chosen to adorn Cheung's funeral was taken from Peter Chan Ho-sun's 1994 award-winning movie He is a Woman, She is a Man, the picture chosen to mark Mui's last journey was from the sequel movie produced two years later.
Both stars had known each other since they joined the entertainment industry in the early 1980s. In the funeral parlour, on top of a black and white picture of Mui was the Buddhist saying: 'Towards the life of Nirvana.'
Police estimated that more than 3,000 people paid their last respects yesterday to the megastar.
Many are also expected to show up today to attend Mui's funeral.
