A study finds more than 80pc are unimpressed with the government
More than 80 per cent of the business sector is dissatisfied with the government's performance, according to a survey conducted by the private think-tank Civic Exchange in November.
Of the 836 respondents, 58 per cent said they would support the sacking of Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa by President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, if the national leaders decided his performance was inadequate. Forty-four per cent agreed that the national leaders should be able to dismiss Mr Tung's ministers for the same reason.
The poll showed Hongkongers' dissatisfaction with their lives has surged to a record high since the survey programme began a decade ago, up from 15 per cent in 1991 to 44 per cent in November.
The findings contradict the popular idea that the business sector is generally pro-government: 50 per cent of business respondents said they were dissatisfied with the administration, and a further 33 per cent said they were 'very dissatisfied'.
Among registered voters in the November district council elections, dissatisfaction with the chief executive was similarly high - 72 per cent among registered voters and 79 per cent among those not registered - and was reflected in the overwhelmingly anti-government result.
