In her final concert performance, dying Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong appeared swathed in white - the veil and gown of the bride she'd never be.
Yesterday, white roses shrouded the hearse that carried her on her final journey, past crowds of tearful fans, as Hong Kong said goodbye to its homegrown superstar.
Thousands lined the streets around the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point to wave and cry as the body of the gifted singer, actress and activist was taken to the Cape Collinson for cremation.
Earlier, members of Mui's family and a host of local celebrities said farewell with a simple Buddhist ceremony.
The 14th Red Hat Lama of Tibet, Shamar Rinpoche, who schooled Mui in the teachings of the Buddha in the 1990s, said: 'Mui had a true heart. She was an unconventional woman and brought happiness to lots of people during her life.'
He also spoke highly of her charitable nature.
