Townhouse offers rooms with a view

A NEW development of townhouses and apartments in Repulse Bay offers a well-finished and enduring look not always common in Hong Kong.

The property at 45 Island Road is approached along a wide driveway, which features a multi-coloured circular tile mosaic.

Above the mosaic, on the second level of the development, is a circle of sand-coloured Greek-style mini-columns, draped with flowers and shrubs, which act as a skylight for the undercover garage.

Residents reach the townhouses from a lift in the management office.

The 10 townhouses and six apartments - one of which is available for lease at $90,000 per month - surround the communal recreation and leisure areas, which feature a swimming pool in the centre.

Dotted around this central communal area are many landscaped gardens with fully grown trees and bright flower beds.

Other features include a children's play area, a barbecue suitable for large outdoor gatherings, and a gymnasium.

Available for lease is House Four, located at the front of the development, which has views of Deep Water Bay, and is of similar internal design to the other townhouses.

The front door is approached through a small private garden - every house also has its own jasmine vine - and opens into a large ground floor room, which can serve as a dining room.

This room, which has a polished parquet floor, opens on to a central paved atrium. One resident has turned this into a casual entertaining area, and has plans for a white trellis with climbing plants to cover the walls.

A wooden staircase, covered with fitted carpet and featuring a carved wood and iron balustrade, leads to the guest's bathroom, which is decorated in brown marble and granite.

On the same level is the kitchen which has a breakfast table built into a bay window which overlooks the back garden.

The kitchen has numerous light oak, glass-fronted cupboards with detailed carving and brass handles.

A large work bench holding the sink, juts out into the centre of the room, and creates a corridor which leads to the utility room, maid's quarters and bathroom.

The kitchen, which also has a door leading to the back garden, has a full-sized fridge and freezer, with adequate bench space for other modern gadgets.

The staircase winds up to the next level, where there is a large living room, which has a bay window and other smaller windows which face towards the sea.

On the same level are two smaller bedrooms - one of which could also serve as a study. Each overlooks the garden and hillside.

The master bedroom has a view overlooking Deep Water Bay.

There is adequate space at one end of the room for a large built-in wardrobe, which one resident has had fitted, complete with hanging space of varying size, segmented draws and shoe racks.

The main bedroom has its own en suite, which is decorated in a swirling pink and cream marble.

Natural light from a small window reflects on to a large mirror.

The top level of the house features a guest bedroom, the same size as the master bedroom, complete with its own bathroom.

The roof of the property can also be used for outdoor entertaining.
