Toll roads run by Hopewell Highway Infrastructure have shaken off the effects of Sars, with average daily traffic and revenue registering record numbers in the second half of last year.
Propelled by exponential economic growth, average daily toll revenue of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen superhighway and the east-south-west ring road in Guangzhou grew at double-digits last month, according to the company's latest data.
Analysts expected the strong growth to continue this month and next as traffic builds up further during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
For the 122.8km Guangzhou-Shenzhen superhighway between the Huanggang border checkpoint and Guangzhou, average daily toll revenue last month was a record 7.12 million yuan, up 23 per cent from 2002.
On a year-on-year basis, the toll road's average revenue grew between 19 per cent and 23 per cent from July 1 to December 30 last year.
Traffic volume also saw a healthy recovery from the impact of the Sars outbreak in March last year. Average daily traffic volume was 192,000 vehicles last month, an increase of 22 per cent.
