Thieves flee with suitcases, handbags
Handbags and suitcases worth more than $110,000 were stolen yesterday in a smash-and-grab attack on a Louis Vuitton store in Causeway Bay. Security officers at the shop on Hysan Avenue found two display windows smashed about 6am. The manager of the shop found six handbags, three suitcases and three wallets were missing.
policeman, 47, dies hiking on mount parker road
A 47-year-old police officer died while hiking on Mount Parker Road, Quarry Bay. The officer, surnamed Lau, had gone on a walk with his wife. Feeling uncomfortable, he went to a public toilet about 12.30pm. He did not come out and his wife later found him lying unconscious on the floor. He was taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital but was declared dead. He had heart and kidney diseases, according to his wife.
falling window just misses family of five
A family of five had a narrow escape when a falling window smashed to the ground a metre or two in front of them in Castle Peak Road. Police said the window, in its frame, fell from the 7th floor of an old building at 9.30pm. A tenant told police the window fell as he tried to open it. A three-year-old girl was slightly hurt. Two people died in similar incidents this month.
