A closer look at sexual orientation
University and secondary school students are urging the public to adopt an open attitude towards people with a different sexual orientation. A new website focusing on sexual orientation is the result of six months of effort from students and social workers. It aims to provide information to people with a different sexual orientation and a platform for discussion.
The website features discussion groups, links to gay groups, short movies related to sexual orientation and online polling. The public can cast their votes on whether marriage of the same sex should be legalised.
The website, Ask For More - Homosexual Discussion Platform, was set up by The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong and sponsored by the Home Affairs Department.
The website was officially launched last Saturday with 40 volunteers and social workers sharing their views on sexual orientation. Janet Yau, the association's supervisor of the Wong Tai Sin District, said the website was set up to meet people's needs.
'Over the past three years, we have found that more and more of our clients are experiencing problems related to their sexual orientation,'' said Ms Yau. 'Some teenagers are reluctant to talk about sexual orientation with their teachers and social workers.'
Maggie Chan, a year one social work student at City University of Hong Kong, together with her classmates, made a short film about a woman who discovers her younger sister in an unusual relationship with her female friend.
