Comeback fashion designer Priscilla Chen held a reunion rather than a typical clothing launch when she unveiled her new haute couture line, Apsara, a collection of finely tailored cashmere for the travelling woman. Although Chen says she hates name-dropping, her cocktail party for 60-odd people drew some of Hong Kong's biggest names to her label's space at the New World Centre in Central. 'I was so busy greeting everyone, I had no time to sit and chat with each of them, but it was wonderful to see so many good friends in one space,' she says. Among Chen's high-flying friends and clients were Betty Kadoorie (wife of The Peninsula hotel boss Michael Kadoorie), Charmaine Zeman (wife of Lan Kwai Fong Group chairman Alan Zeman), and Elaine Marden (chairwoman of Bayanihan Trust). But the event was not an all-girl affair. Some of Hong Kong's most successful men were present to lend support, among them Kwong Chun-chuan, senior vice-president of EFG Private Bank, former solicitor-general Daniel Fung Wah-kin, and branding guru Henry Steiner.
