The soundtrack to Hawaii-based surfer and all-round artiste Jack Johnson's film Thicker Than Water is a quality product in itself: a tasteful monochrome cover holds within it a miniature coffee-table book of surf-related photos. Love or loathe the music, the release is a piece of art.

And the music?

Waves, sand, a warm breeze: all elements effectively conjured up by a well-thought-out compilation of work by Johnson himself together with a surprisingly diverse collection of songsmiths, mellowness being the common thread.
