Commercial real-estate management company Jones Lang LaSalle has teamed up with chipmaker Intel to set up Wi-fi access at seven properties in Asia, including Hong Kong's Citicorp Centre.

The two companies would not discuss the costs of wiring up the buildings, but Jones Lang LaSalle officials said installing Wi-fi would add value to its property portfolio because tenants liked the convenience and mobility that a wireless network afforded.

Other properties in the plan are the 37-storey Prudential Building in Tokyo, three properties in Australia including the 50-storey Chifley Tower in Sydney, the Enterprise Centre in Manila and the Republic Plaza in Singapore.

Betty Wong, senior manager in marketing communications for Jones Lang LaSalle, said there were no plans to wire up more buildings with Wi-fi in Hong Kong.

'We are closely monitoring the feedback to the new attempt at Citicorp Centre. We certainly would like to see more Wi-fi hotspots installed at other buildings, but there is no fixed plan at the moment.'
