Forum marks public housing anniversary
An international conference to mark the 50th anniversary of public housing in Hong Kong will be held today. The government's role in housing policies, globalisation and housing development and sustainable housing for healthy living will be discussed. Bertrand Renaud, former World Bank adviser an internationally recognised industry expert, will deliver a keynote speech.
Art groups to showcase work at congress
Arts companies in Hong Kong can showcase their work at the International Society for the Performing Arts' International Congress from June 8 to 11. Hosting the congress would help promote Hong Kong's image as Asia's World City and raise its profile in the international arts scene, a Leisure and Cultural Services Department official said. It also provides a forum for government and non-government arts bodies to meet their overseas counterparts.
Tourist faces court on blackmail charges
Police have charged a German visitor, 28, with two counts of blackmail in connection with an alleged scam to defraud luxury hotels. The man allegedly cut his own mouth and claimed the injury was caused by glass particles in the hotel food. He would then demand compensation from the hotel. The accused is to appear today in Kowloon City Court.
