WHEN one thinks of newcomer Kevin Cheng Ka-wing, one may recall a quiet and softspoken teenager who appears in television and radio programmes and outdoor music functions.
However, in reality, Cheng is an active and energetic young man who plays tennis and loves chatting with his friends.
Cheng is cautious and serious when it comes to his singing career. He took up singing after graduating from university last year.
He signed a contract with PolyGram during summer last year under the recommendation of his singing teacher, Tai See-chung.
''I have been learning singing since Form 2,'' said Cheng, who left the territory after his fifth-form studies at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong.
The singer attended Grade 12 and 13 in Canada and then moved on to undergraduate studies at the California State of Northridge University, majoring in civil engineering.
While he was studying abroad, Cheng did not forget to practise singing. He returned to the territory during Christmas and summer holidays to learn with Mr Tai.
