The new service named Medway - a slot-charter scheduling agreement - is to be started either later this year or early next year.

It will start up with seven ships providing a sailing every 10 days and be strengthened in the future with additional ships to provide improved service frequency and quality.

Evergreen will contribute five vessels from its 20-strong 2,728 TEU (20 ft equivalent unit) G-class fleet while Lloyd Triestino will provide two 2,987 TEU newbuildings - the Nuova Genova and Nuova Trieste - for the service.

The service is being introduced in response to growing demand for services to the areas.
