Q Should Wedding Card Street be saved?

I am a member of the American Women's Association and last year took a group of newcomers up and down the small streets in the Queen's Road area, including Wedding Card Street. Everyone enjoyed the old markets, the framing and other unusual shops - the area has real character and many interesting local people.

It may need a little restoration but these old Wan Chai streets have plenty of charm and would make another very nice tourist destination, an alternative to the skylines and grander stores of the Central area. Why not close it to traffic, put up a few trees, hanging baskets and benches?

There are many small streets in this Wan Chai area (between Hennessy Road and Queens Road East) which have great potential for tourists and would make a nice contrast to the girly bar area of Lockhart Road.

Lee Tung Street has developed into Wedding Card Street over the course of more than 30 years. It not only provides local couples a place to print their wedding invitation cards but also is a part of the special character of the Wan Chai district.

It has both historical and cultural value. The government should make every effort to conserve the area rather than to bulldoze it. It is a pity the street will be redeveloped. I suggest the government carefully reconsider before finalising the redevelopment plan for the area.
