CAUGHT up with Lantau artist (via London and Calcutta, that is) Gary Melsom (pictured above) as he was setting up for his exhibition of papier-mache and gypsum work which opened yesterday in the Loft at Seibu, Pacific Place. Gary, who has been ''messing about with this type of humorous art for 15 years, and doing it seriously for the last 10 years'', told us that he used nothing but old copies of the South China Morning Post for his papier-mache work - which probably explains why they looked so stylistically stimulating. ''But that's after I have read it from cover to cover,'' he assured us. The show is on until October 6, and most of the work is up for sale. Then for Gary it's back to the ''little artistic community we have over at Pui O in Lantau'', where he has another pile of newspapers to get through.
