Premier issues new year greeting to sars family

A Lunar New Year's greeting from Premier Wen Jiabao surprised an Amoy Gardens family which lost a mother of two during the Sars outbreak last year, Xinhua reported. Mr Wen instructed the Beijing Liaison Office to extend his greetings to Kwok Sin-hung's family. Mr Wen made a surprise visit to the family during his visit to Hong Kong in June. Mr Kwok lost his wife during the outbreak.

trust fund distributes $73m to affected families

The Sars trust fund has distributed $73 million to dependants of people who died from the disease and some recovered patients. The fund was set up in November after Legco approved $150 million to provide financial assistance to the families of those who died from Sars, recovered patients and suspected patients who were treated with steroids but did not have the disease.

imported case of dengue fever confirmed

The Department of Health confirmed an imported case of dengue fever yesterday and urged the public to guard against the disease. A 27-year-old man who had a fever and a headache after returning from a tour of several Southeast Asian countries, had been diagnosed with the disease. He has since recovered and been discharged from Prince of Wales Hospital.
